Breaking the Silence DVD

For most survivors of childhood sexual abuse, it is a secret they maintain and attempt to repress well into adulthood. While they hope that the pain will finally leave, often it remains within, severely impacting how they live. The first step in healing for the sexual abuse survivor is Breaking the Silence, speaking the truth, owning the reality of what happened. This video addresses the second step in breaking that silence, and that is talking about the most prevalent defenses and responses. The defenses were a form of protection, the responses were about survival. When abuse occurs, a child or teenager defends and responds the only way they know how. What was done to protect yourself, and what was done to make it possible to create some dignity for yourself was necessary for survival. Today, it is safer to speak to the injustice, unfairness, and the terror that were a part of the experiences, and you can speak with the safety that was not there as a child. By acknowledging what it is you needed to do to protect yourself, you will be taking an important step in putting the past behind you and moving from a life of shame to choice. Claudia sensitively and respectfully discusses:

  • Denial
  • Splitting
  • Flooding
  • Phobias
  • Sexual Promiscuity - Sexual Exploits - Sexual Avoidance
  • Compartmentalizing
  • Loss of Recall
  • Self Abuse
  • Suicidal Ideation
  • Use of Alcohol and Other Drugs

These defenses have made all the sense in the world but in the healing process, as you have named the abuser, you need to name your defenses and let go of those that are now hurtful. You need to put the past behind. You deserve to live a life free from shame. A short preview of this video is available by clicking HERE Running time 30 minutes
