For addicted persons, triggers are signals that they are entering a stage that brings them closer to relapse. Whether it’s a struggle with substance or behavioral addictions, Claudia asks the viewer to think seriously about triggers and identify warning signs that one is entering a zone of jeopardy. She describes the relationship of triggers to brain chemistry and how triggers can hijack the brain’s thinking and lead to relapse. She reinforces the concept that repeated recovery practices help to rewire the brain.
This video can be utilized with an individual client, in group settings and with families. It is appropriate for all addiction services, ranging from drug courts, to intensive outpatient, residential, extended care, and correctional facilities.
